How Is French Bread Made?

    French Bread is a delicay of sorts. It is fun baking this kind of bread regularly, especially when everyone is at home of weekends.

    The ingredients are :

    - Dry yeast 2 packs
    - 1-1/2 tsp salt
    - 1 tsp sugar
    - 3-1/2 cups warm water.
    - 6 cups flour.

    Bring the temperature of water to 110 to 115 degrees F. Then take a large bowl and sprinkle yeast with the sugar. After 5 minutes the yeast will dissolve and start to bubble. Then stir in flour, bit by bit and also the salt. Cover and let it rise for half an hour.

    Then stir in the rest of flour for a soft dough. Then turn the dough and knead for 10 minutes. Clean the large bowl, grease it with solid shortening and place the dough in the bowl. Cover and let rise for 2-1/2 hours. After this time punch down the dough. Divide and place one half on a lightly floured surface.

    Roll the dough to 12 x 6 " rectangle. Seal seams and edges by pinching and repeat with remaining dough. Grease a cookie sheet and sprinkle with cornmeal. Now place loaves on this sheet and cover and let rise at room temperature untl it doubles for an hour.

    Preheat oven to 425 degree F. Spray them with water and using a blade slash each loave. Bake for 25-30 minutes and golden brown them. Your bread is ready.
