This is a good question. I think the answer lies in the anticipated size of the earthquake and the area of the country where the earthquake will or has taken place. We do not always realize the closeness of earthquakes and we do not always recognize when and earthquake occurs right under our feet.

We normally, only hear about massive earthquakes, after they happen. This is because we do not live anywhere near the place where the eruption will happen. We only hear about this on the evening news after it happens. Seismologists have warned the people who will be in danger, of the impending eruption. If, the Seimologists notified an entire country of an impending earthquake eruption, it would have menaing only for those who would be exposed.

Recent Earthquakes occurred everyday in March and have continued in the United States everyday including today. During the month of February 15-30 earthquakes happened everyday somewhere in our country. The same thing was happening in other countries. The earthquakes are recorded, date, time, degrees, km and place from Feb. 2, 2007- March 6, 2007, there have been over 600 earthquakes in the United States alone. I did not count those in all the other countries.

Therefore, I would say the Seimologists are doing a good job, following the governmental requirements for notification, to the appropriate areas of the country. I do not believe it is necessary to notify the entire country everytime an earthquake, is expected or has occurred. Visit this website for some really
