How To Decorate Your Home?

Answer Question

It is important when thinking about decorating to plan ahead.  There is little point in buying wallpaper or paint, start to decorate and then find out that the walls are uneven.

The first step is to check the walls, if they are covered in wallpaper this should be removed, using a wallpaper stripper or sugar soap.  If the walls are not even, apply some patch plaster and you will then have to wait a week or two before you can apply either wallpaper or paint, so that the walls are completely dry.

If you are applying wallpaper then you need to ensure that you buy wallpaper which is from the same batch (there will be a code on the wrapping and these should all match).  Ensure that you have slightly more than you may need in case some gets ripped or damaged when you are putting it up.

If you are applying paint then again buy more than you require in case of any spillage.  It should also be from the same batch to ensure colour consistency.

When thinking about colours to use, it is generally thought that pastel shades are more restful and pale, neutral colours may be the most favourable option if you are thinking of selling your house/apartment within a few months, since they can help make the house more appealing to potential buyers.
