How Do We Celebrate A Special Day?

Answer Question

Special days is the collective term used to refer to the days on which such happy occasions as festivals, ceremonies (such as births and weddings), national holidays, birthdays or wedding anniversaries fall. People usually celebrate all such joyous occasions with a feast in the company of their friends and relatives, or by inviting their near and dear ones to a party to celebrate the special occasion. A national holiday is declared at schools, colleges, universities and even in some organisations. The government offices are also usually closed on these days.

Important holidays in the entire United Kingdom (which comprises England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland) are January 2 (a bank holiday given in lieu of New Year's Day, January 1), April 14 (Good Friday), April 17 (Easter Monday), May 1 (May Day Holiday), May 29 (spring bank holiday), August 28 (summer bank holiday), December 25 (Christmas Day), December 26 (Boxing Day). Apart from these days, Northern Ireland celebrates St. Patrick's Day (dedicated to its patron saint, St. Patrick) on March 17 and Battle of the Boyne (also known as Orangeman's Day) on July 12. Boxing Day (December 26) is also known as St. Stephen's Day in Northern Ireland. Scotland gets its bank holiday in lieu of New Year's Day on January 3, as January 2 is known as the January 2 holiday in the country. The summer bank holiday in Scotland falls on August 7.
