Does A Landlord Have The Right To Lock A Tenant At The End Of A 30 Notice?

My landlord issued a 30 day notice and then change the locks on day 31. The courts have no record of him filing for legal eviction.

I believe that in all the united states, there are landlord/tenant laws that require an eviction notice to be given by the court. Talk to the landlord tenant board in your area, and make sure, as you might be able to get all your stuff back, plus some compensation. Hope this helps, good luck to you.

I'm not sure how the law works in the states, but here in Canada it is against the law for a landlord to lock you out after the 30 day is over. They cannot change the locks or take the keys from you. They can't even touch your property that is in the apartment. They must allow you to stay in your apartment. Once the 30 day is up, they must go through the courts to have you legally removed from the property. Even then, if the courts find in your favour, the landlord, not only can't throw you out, but has to let you continue to live there. I know this to be true, here in Canada, because I am a landlord of a 50 room hotel that rents it's rooms by the month and I've had to go through this process several times.

Depends what state you are in. Some states do not require a landlord to file with the court. But I would contact legal aide an here what they have to say about your state laws
