Miles Davis was considered to be one of the pioneers of the two genres of music which are known as jazz and bebop. However, the jazz and bebop musician who was considered to be a great source of inspiration to and a major influence in Davis' musical career was the well-known African-American jazz saxophonist and composer Charles Parker, Jr. He was popularly known as Charlie Parker and his nickname was Bird.

Charlie Parker's nickname, Bird, was a shortened form of his original nickname, Yardbird. He was born on August 29, 1920 in the city of Kansas City, which is located in the state of Kansas in the United States of America, even though his family originally hailed from the city of Kansas City, which is located in the city of Missouri in the United States of America. He died at the age of 34 on March 12, 1955 in New York City, which is located in the state of New York in the United States of America.
