Shillong is a place in Meghalaya, a north-eastern Indian state. It is infact the capital city of Meghalaya. According to the census of the year 2001, the population of the city is 2,360,069 and consists of three major tribal communities Khasi, Garo and Jaintia. The place also has a significant population of Bengalis, Biharis, Nepalese, Marwaris and Assamese.

Nature is being quite generous on the city and has made it a quite romantic and picturesque place. Some people also call it as the 'Scotland of the East' because of its resemblance with the Scottish Highlands which made the tourists flock towards the place. The locals also feel proud of their city being called the Scotland of the east, though some people call it a colonial mindset.

As Christianity being the principal religion of the place, it has many beautiful churches and cathedrals too.
