My daughter insists that she is still a baby and does not need to go on a potty. But on the other hand she is the most independent child I have eve met. What do I do? Please help!

I am at the moment training my son who will be 3 on the 25th.  I think the first rule is that you have to make sure your child is ready to be trained.  The worse thing to do is to attach negative feelings to potty training.  I first started by not using diapers and using pull-ups.  And all changing was done in the bathroom as if he was wearing real underware...this was to establish the difference between being a "baby" and a "big boy".  And every time I would change him whether it was dirty or not, I let him sit on the potty so that he could go.  After a couple of days he finally would go when I would put him on the potty, we made a big deal out of it, so he would realize that was what he was suppose to do.  Now we are in the second phase of where I don't put a pull-up on at all,  he now makes the conscience effort to go to the bathroom, of course he does get little "mommy reminders". Do be upset or surpised though if your child does have accidents.  By the end of this week he will be in real underware and on his way to be fully trained!

I guess my problem is that I need to be more patient with her and it will come. My son was absolutely awful to train, but at 3 1/2 he decided he was ready and never had another accident again. I had always heard that girls were easier, so I expected it to come easier. Thanks for your comments.

I am actually training my daughter right now too.  She's 2 years old.  You definitely have to wait until they are ready.  My son didn't train until after he turned 3.  She's definitely been earlier, and since I stay home during the week, when we are home, I let her run around naked, with no diapers or anything, and it's easier for her.  She knows she has to go, and will run to the potty and tell me she has to go .  If she's got a diaper or pull up on, she will go in that, without even thinking.  And even when she's got underwear on, she will pee in that.  So she hasn't quite gotten that aspect of it yet.  But she goes on the potty, and I have to remember she's only 2. LOL
But back to you, LOL  as long as she's interested, just go slow with it.  When she goes, definitely make a big deal about it, and even do little rewards.  If she likes stickers, try that, everytime she goes on the potty she gets a sticker.  Or other things....  Trial and error. LOL
      Good luck definitely!!

I trained my children by constantly asking them if they had to go poty. Then put them on the seat, and let them sit there for a few minutes, then get them dressed again, in a little while, ask again, and put them on the seat again. They often learn with constant reminders, and through repetition. Before you know it, they will be telling you that they have to go poty. Hope this helps you out.

Tell him or her that if they try to use the potty and if they do they can have a treat

Stop insisting she use the potty and when she sees its not upsetting you she will do it on her own.
That is one thing they have control over you can't make them go potty only they can do that and they like having control over something cuz we seem to control every other little thing in their lives.  Give it a rest and she will come round.
