What Did It Mean To Be A Disciple At The Time Of Jesus?

Here is a sermon i wrote on a true diciple
The word "disciple" means "learner". In jesus day a person who wanted to learn Wisdom would follow a teacher around and listen to them teach,and wached them live. The Disciple's goal was not just to learn facts from his master but to become like him in every way. So a Disciple of Christ should want to learn from him and become more like him. To have a Christ like Character.
1.) In the book of Mathew chapter 10 God tells his disicples what they are to do?
• He gave them authority to Drive out demons.
• He Gave them the power to drive out "every" disease and sickness.
• He told them to preach his teachings.
To truly understand a Disciples role you have to refer to the life of the 12 Disciples and and the way they lived there lifes. If you aceppt jesus as your lord and saivor and you want to grow in him then you are a disciple of Jesus Christ. See Disciples have to want to learn inorder to get that name. God dosent give all of us these gifts of healing,drive out demons and preaching the word.Yet we all have the ability to witness and pray.
  It takes a lot of faith to heal and drive out demons. God blesses that gift to people who he know has thjat character. You see God cant change you you change yourself. If God could change you then we would all be perfect.But he can change you when you Surrender your life completly to him.He can only change your life when our willing to offer him your life first.
To be a disciple of christ means surendering alot of your old nature and to bring forth a new nature in your life. Bieng a disciple means being a leader and follower. In order to be a leader you have to be a follower. In order to teach you had to have been taught. In order heal you would have to been healed. In order to Drive out demons you would have had to have demons driven out of you. In order to be a disciple you have to be just. God is just so you will have to be just to him and others and yourself.
Theres many characteistics of a True disciple that you need to be able to be called a disciple.

• Giving
• Paitence
• Willingness
• hopeful
• Kind
• Mature
• Helpful
• Respectful
• knowledgealble
• Christlike
It is inportant to have these built in to the soil of your heart in order to spread them through your life by roots. We as disciples should take our role and use it as a reflection.God has a plan for every christains life. Some might be called to be a disciple of preaching or healing or drving out demons. But we all are called to pray and witness him. Postmodern disciples read the signs of the divine and make sign languages about the divine. In this modern world we disciples need to bring the christ back in christain. Christain is not only a religion and a characteristic but it's also a way of life. We need to restore it back. In this modern world christ would be the last thing this society would think about in times of trouble we turn to MAN and TECHNOLOGY. Christ is the only thing that can restore this nation back on it's true foundation in wich it was created. It takes disciples to do it. Are you up for the Challenge?
