Self-destructive beliefs are those things that you believe would damage your self-esteem and prevent you from building meaningful and productive relationships. These self-destructive beliefs may be about yourself and your relationships. Identifying these beliefs will help a person in conducting a critical examination of those beliefs and furthermore see that they are both illogical and self-defeating. There are several tactics to attack these beliefs, all of which are discussed further.
First you need to recognize that you may have internalized such drivers. Secondly, you should acknowledge that these drivers are in fact unrealistic and self-defeating. Other than that, you should give yourself permission to fail, to be less than perfect, to be normal. Another tactic would be to engage yourself in self-affirmation. Remind yourself of your successes from time to time, focus on your positive attributes. Also look carefully at the good relationship you have with your friends and relatives. Concentrate on your personal opportunities and not your limitations. Also you should seek out positive people who are optimistic and make you feel good about yourself. Avoid those who find fault with almost everything. Seek to build a network of supportive others. Work on projects that can give you success but still remember that the failure of your project is not the failure of you as a person.
