What Does The Term Leg Break Mean In Cricket?

Answer Question

Leg break, also known as 'leggies', are popular cricket terminology used to refer to a particular style of bowling. Holding the cricket ball in such a manner that the seam runs under all the fingers, and then rotating the wrist to the left and releasing the ball through ones little finger with a counter clockwise spin results in the leg break action of bowling.

The resultant action, once the ball is on the pitch, makes the ball swing towards the right as seen from the batsman's viewpoint and to the left as seen from the bowler's viewpoint. Due to this, the ball essentially goes towards the offside and away from the leg-side, thus the name—leg break. Most leg spin bowlers generally bowl varying leg breaks. The leg break is said to be one of the most difficult styles of bowling to play since any miscalculation on the part of the batsman can result in ball falling into the hands of the wicketkeeper or the slip fielders.
