What Does Morass Mean?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Morass is a tract of low, soft, wet ground. It refers to a low-lying land that sinks underfoot. Marsh, swamp, mire etc are some of the other names for morass. It indicates soggy ground that can hinder, engulf or overwhelm people. Morass is a word with Germanic origins. It is a wet spongy ground with decaying vegetation. The drainage in a morass is even worse than that of a swamp. It is impossible to use this land for cultivation as the soil in a morass is very unsuitable for it. But often this soil id collected, dried and cut for the purpose of using it as fuel.

This term is also often used to refer to something that is difficult to handle or something that is posing a problem. When somebody gets entangled in a situation that is confusing or troublesome and proving very difficult to free oneself from then it is said that he is caught in a morass.
