The stock market is where people go to to sell or buy shares to public companys. Shareholders make money when the price of the stock goes up which happens when the company makes good profits or is bought out by a bigger company. They also loose money if the stock falls due to bad profits or threat of closure or bankrupcey

Stock market also has individuals that are brokers and specialists that buy and sell stocks in certain companies.   This is called making a market.   They help balance the supply of stocks from those selling with the demand from those buying that particular stock.  Today computers execute numerous buy and sell transactions beyond what was once only a paper transaction.

Stock market is an open market where an investor or trader can buy or sell the shares of different companies listed in that exchange. Investors can make profit by taking advantage of price movements and could suffer losses also.
