How Many Police Are Sent To Notting Hill Carnival?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

With the annual Notting Hill Carnival attracting millions of people from all around the world, crime and safety are always one of the number one concerns. Every year London's Metropolitan Police work closely with all the agencies organizing the carnival to ensure that the event is as crime free and safe for all attending.  In preparation of the Notting Hill Carnival, the police department sends out letters to all people who have caused a disruption at previous carnivals.  To date, nearly four hundred and fifty letters have been mailed out and in August of 2006 eleven thousand police shifts were used to provide cover.  The Metrolpolitan Police Chief Inspector Rod Charles, the spokesperson for the 2006 carnival said, "This is a unique and vibrant event and we're working with our police colleagues across London to do all we can to stop the small minority spoiling it for thousands of others."
