HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone which is produced by the chorion of the zygote after fertilization. This hormone is used for the development of placenta. Detection of this hormone in urine or blood is test of pregnancy. In blood beta HCG levels are measured. Its levels less than 5 means no pregnancy. A level between 5 to 25 means may or may not pregnant, repeat test after 2 days. HCG levels more than 25 means pregnancy. But there are few more conditions which increase HCG levels in blood. These are ovarian cancer, Hydatidiform mole of the uterus and Choriocarcinoma of the uterus.
