Is Accommodation In Bucharest Inexpensive?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Although Romania is a former Communist, East European country, this does not necessarily mean that hotel accommodation will be a lot cheaper in its capital city, than in most Western European centers. In fact, the cost of accommodation in Bucharest is very similar to that of most hotels in major European cities and as such, it tends to be rather expensive.

Bucharest's most famous hotel is probably the five star InterContinental. The building is a high-rise and serves as a landmark in central Bucharest. The average nightly rate ranges from about €170 to €249 and as such, it is similar to the cost of luxury hotels in the West.

An example of more moderately priced accommodation is the three-star Hotel Capitol, where double rooms start at €110 per night. At Hotel Lev Or, another three star establishment, the nightly rate for a single room stands at approximately €129.

For those willing to give up their comfort, Bucharest has a handful of hostels, and these tend to be very inexpensive. Most hostels, such as the "Butterfly Villa," the "Funky Chicken" and the "Villa Helga" charge between €8 and €15 per night for a bed in a co-ed dormitory.
