When Did Henry I Reign As King Of England?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Henry I reigned as King of England from 1110-1135.

He was the fourth son of William the Conqueror, born in 1068 after his father had invaded England to become King William I.
After the death of his father, his older brother William II (known to most as Rufus) became King of England until his death during hunting trip in 1110.

Henry I was originally married to Edith-Matilda with whom he had two children Matilda and William Adelin. He also had a vast number of mistresses, with which it is thought that he had between twenty and twenty-five illegitimate children.
William Adelin died at sea when he was seventeen years old along with two of his illegitimate children.
Henry married his second wife, but didn't have any children with her. Before his death, Henry made his barons swear that they would accept his daughter, Empress Matilda as his successor.
