    After facing rejections and hardships her first novel "Heartsong" song was purchased by Silhouette books though it was not published. Her second novel "Starlight" was also purchased and published by silhouette. This was the first novel by Debbie Macomber to be published. This novel was in #128 in the list of Silhouette Special Edition.

    Later "Harlequin Enterprises Ltd" bought over Silhouette books in the year 1988. Debbie was offered to write an interconnected sequence of novels for "Harlequin", this novel was known as the "Navy Series". Her books became famous and where doing good business. The number of books sold every year was around 150,000 copies. She used to publish around two to three books every year. In the year 2002 she realized that she was not comfortable writing books on teen age and young girls. So she decided writing books on friendship and companionship among women. "Thursday at Eight" was her first novel on women's life.
