Where Is Loughton?

    Loughton is a town in the county of Essex within the district of Epping Forrest.  It is twelve and half miles outside of Central London.

    Loughton is home to print works that produces the bank notes for the Bank of England.  Other than that the town is mainly residential, with over thirty thousand inhabitants.

    Loughton was once home to Loughton Camp, an important Iron Age dwelling. Archaeologists have discovered some exciting iron age finds at the site including early pottery.

    Sadly during the Second World War, Loughton seem to be the centre of many unfortunate mishaps, with more people killed by incidents of friendly fire and so called accident than enemy activities.

    Loughton is also the home of East 15 or E15 Acting School, which was founded on the principles espoused by Joan Littlewood and her Theatre Workshop colleagues.

    Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits was once a lecturer at Loughton College.

    Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream was first performed at a private home on the outskirts of Loughton.
