Why Do Some Teenagers Never Get Along With Their Parents?

My 18 yr old daughter and I have the same problem, since her dad and I got a divorce and she blames me for it.  Sometimes 2 people find themselves at odds, with unresolved issues build ing up.  I suggest you tell your mom that you would really like to become friends.  Life is to short and believe me... Later, when you really need someone... Guess who'll be there? One more thing, when my daughter's friends are around, I am also very sweet, guess why? Because I love my daughter and care about what her friends think of me, I would never want to embarrass her.  We started out just like you... Just a girl growing up, having fun with our friends, then all the sudden... We're moms, and not seen for who we once were... For some reason we lose part of our identity.  I think it may be this way because children learn very early on that no matter what mom will be there, even if she is angry or ready for an arguement.  So many children grow up with this message stored deep in the brain, and they don't realise that they test it all the time.  In the same breath moms sometimes become a little resentful of having to take on a majority of the rearing of the children; and im sure we display this attitude towards the children sometimes.  Nothing personal really, just a part of life I guess.  Do you think your mom may need a friend?  Can you imagine not having the freedom to run around and hang with friends?  I do hope this helpped you.  I think it was very mature of you to ask this question...
