""Up until a certain age, boys and girls, as fetuses, are indistinguishable, If you have no Y chromosome, then certain hormones are released that say 'Okay, we'll set up this child's breast tissue to develop at puberty so that she will be able to produce milk.' Men didn't [secrete those hormones], so we don't usually have breast tissue", said Jack Newman, a Toronto-based doctor and breast-feeding expert.""
Some men can actually lactate if properly motivated and stimulated... as recently as 2002, the media latched on to the case of a 38-year-old man in Sri Lanka who nursed his two daughters after his wife died during the birth of her second child.,, but I recall hearing other cases over the years... So I guess you could say it's either a developmental holdover.. Or maybe a genetic back up system... And then there's the sexual benefits... Take your pick!

While in the womb all fetus' start out as the same gender, female.  Then at a later stage males develop their genitalia.  In doing so, the males keep the nipples they had as a female fetus.  I hope this clarifies the issue for you, and explain it to your dad, too please.♥

Absolutely correct. For a female to turn into a male, a particular hormone must be released at just the right time. Funny things can happen at this point as well. If the correct amount of hormone is not forthcoming for a long enough duration, the transition to being a male may not be complete. This causes Hermaphrodites. Another thing it often causes is undeveloped testes attached to a woman's ovaries. This is surprisingly common, appearing in as many as 1 in 6 women according to some studies.
