Hot, spicy foods don't bother everyone. But they sure bother some. Because you said "too much," I'd answer that one could inflame and weaken the mucosa lining of their stomach and have GREAT discomfort....both shortly after eating and after every meal until the inflammation healed. Been there. Done that. ;-)
The walls of the stomach are protected from disgestive acids by this mucosa lining. If it is compromised, you've got acid on tissue. Not very pleasant. In fact, very very painful.
