He is often referred to as the father of modern physics, science and astronomy. He revolutionised the thinking that had existed since Aristotle.
It is said he considered the priesthood, and then at the urging of his father, entered the University of Pisa in Tuscany, which is still famous today for science maths and philosophy. He started Medicine, but soon changed to Maths,a subject he excelled in, and helped to revolutionise.
He was entrusted with the care of his younger brother on the death of his father and then moved to teach Maths at the university of Padua, another famous university, that still exists in the Veneto.
Here he taught geometry, astronomy and mechanics, up to 1610, were he made many discoveries in applied science and astronomy.
He was and is, the spark and motivation for legions of students in Pisa, who go there to study maths, engineering, medicine and philosophy as he did. Philosophy still one of the most popular subjects in Italy.
