    Rhythm and blues, which is also known as R&B or RnB is a very well known music genre. This genre puts together jazz, gospel, and blues influences. This term was coined was first termed in the United States in 1947 by Jerry Wexler. The term initially existed as a musical marketing term. In its first ever demonstration, rhythm and blues was considered to be one of the predecessors to rock and roll. It was also powerfully prejudiced by jazz, jump blues and black gospel music. Rhythm and blues, blues, and gospel mutual with bebop in turn helped to create hard bop. The first ever rock and roll hits, which also comprised of rhythm and blues songs appeared on popular music charts as well as R&B charts. Some of these very songs are "Rocket 88" and "Shake, Rattle and Roll". The first ever song that hit the number one charts on the pop, R&B and country and western charts was "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On", by Jerry Lee Lewis.

    Some of the artist who involve in making the R&B music popular are Clarence "Frogman" Henry, Frankie Ford, Irma Thomas, The Neville Brothers and Dr. John.
