What Happens In The UK If You Drive A Car Without Insurance?

Answer Question

Unfortunately, not very much. The cost of motoring is now so high (fuel prices here are extortionate compared to the US, as so much is taken in tax), that too many people are prepared to take a chance and not bother with insurance or road tax. Being in a collision with an uninsured driver is quite a common occurrence here now. The culprit may be sent to court but the punishment is often very lenient, or virtually unenforceable. Meanwhile, the other driver (assuming he / she wasn't injured or worse) is left to pay for the damage even if the collision was no fault of theirs. I hate to say this as it it may encourage others to do likewise, but it all boils down to a matter of conscience really.
