Is My Compost Bin Really A Tardis? It Never Fills Up!

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

That's because much of the green waste inside slowly decays into atmospheric CO2, as well as minerals and other matter that comprises the soil you get out of the bottom.  CO2 is a 'bad' gas associated with climate change, BUT green waste that goes to landfill does worse; it often turns into methane (CH4) which is a much more potent climate change gas.

Plus the stuff you compost doesn't take up energy and generate more CO2 by being transported miles (in rubbish lorries) and is not taking up expensive and increasingly scarce landfill waste.
