Where Would I Find Information On Educational Grants Or Scholarships?

I am 48 yrs old, and find myself once again of possibly being laid off my current job. I would like to continue my education. However, with my current debt load, incurring another debt would bury me. Where would I find information on going to school using a grant or scholarship program? Thanks in advance! Janes

Check the financial aid offices of your local schools.  Some schools also have a separate office for scholarships. I just started back to school and am receiving some grants and am applying for scholarships all over the place. My school has been a great help!

Also this is the site to fill out the Federal financial aid form for Pell Grants. You will want to have an idea of what schools you may want to attend as it will want to know what schools to send your info to. Oh, but that will only help if you are in USA.

I am in the states, and thanks for some great places to start. One quick question, does is have to be a "traditional" college, whether 2 or 4 year...or can it be for an Accredited Certificate Training course...for example Microsoft Certified Training? Thanks again for your help! It is greatly appreciated. Janes

you know, I'm not positive. I'm pretty sure that Microsoft Certified Training would qualify for federal grants. But you want to jump on it because there is a finite amount of funding each year and you want to make sure you get in before its all disbursed. I know at my school you can sign up for a just a Certificate course of training (not leading to a full degree) in different fields and that there are several in the CIS field so I would think Microsoft Training would qualify as long as the school is Accredited. Every school I talked to was totally helpful with the financial aid aspect since they want you to go to their school. But make sure you look at different programs. i ended up at a local community college to start my CPA and it is tens of thousands less than at some other programs. Some of the other schools played up their financial aid packages but when I looked really closely, a lot of it was loan paperwork. Right now my tuition, books and daycare are being fully funded by my Pell Grant and some other grants that I have gotten through my school. I have also applied for some scholarships that the scholarship office at my school has notified me about. I am all about the free money!

oh, and i just remembered, years ago I went to what used to be called Vocational Technical School and used a Pell Grant. It's called a Technical College now and I'm pretty sure it offers Microsoft Cert classes. So I'm sure those programs qualify. Good Luck!!
