Why Is The Term "Emo" Used So Loosely?

Answer Question

3 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

The term "Emo" relates to a wide variety of associations. People are constantly referring to the punky kids who hang around town wearing skinny jeans and stud belts as "Emo's". In fact the term has been around for a lot longer than the past couple of years, which has seen a sudden increase in the popularity of the "Emo" fashion.

Back in the 80's, much of the "emotional" music was referred to as "Emo" music and is remembered for its melodramatic edge and sometimes depressing messages. The use of the term was associated, and still is by some - as the only definition of the word in its true sense.

Like many phrases the term has once again surfaced and become very popular. The loose "use" of the term is probably caused by the uprising of the fashion amongst young people - indeed the popularity of this fashion craze (which also involves adopting certain musical tastes) is widespread.

Well, "emo" is the term people use for people that have hair hiding their eyes, pretty much a label, believe me "emos" enjoy being what they are, and are very free to  be so, but i don't believe you should use it loosely because sumtimes they do get offended, pretty much like if you were discriminating them.
