    Vladivostok is a seaport city. It is located in Southeastern Russia. Vladivostok is one of the leading seaports of Asia. It was founded as a military outpost in the year of 1860. Later it became the chief Russian naval base on the Pacific Ocean in the year of 1872. The seaport of Vladivostok was a free commercial port in the year of 1904. It grew speedily as a military base after The Russian Revolution of 1917.

    The city and the port was the home of the Pacific fleet during the soviet era. From the late 1950s it was blocked to foreign shipping because of its military importance. The city and the port of Vladivostok reemerged as a commercial port after the collapse of the U.S.S.R in the year 1991.

    The main industries of Vladivostok are mainly ship repairing and fishing as well as fish processing. Meat processing is also an important economic activity of the city. It is a leading cultural center of Russia. The eastern terminus of the Trans-Siberian railroad is situated here. According to the report of the year 2001, the total population of the city was estimated at around 598,600.
