A lobby is a room or corridor that separates the inside rooms of a building from the outside, but is a word that is not in common use with regard to houses these days. In the past this might have been called a vestibule, but today we refer to a hall or hallway. Lobby is used for larger buildings such as hotels, office blocks or libraries.
