How Can I Find Out If My Son Is Dyslexic?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Dyslexia is a reading disorder characterised by reading ability below the expected level given a child's age and intelligence. Dyslexia is a neurologically-based condition and can often be inherited. Dyslexia cannot be officially diagnosed using one single test because dyslexia can be mild, moderate, severe or profound. More importantly dyslexia can impact many different areas. Even if you are already convinced that your child has dyslexia, it is advisable to get them tested to determine the level of dyslexia and which areas it affects. An accurate diagnosis can help you to pick the right tutoring programme to help your child to cope with the condition. It is good to note that dyslexia is not a learning disability or a medical condition. A child can be tested as early as five-and ~half years old and the testing must be done with a specialist. The best way to get help,if you believe your child is dyslexic, is to contact the British Dyslexia Association in Reading who will give plenty of advice and information.
