How Did F. Scott Fitzgerald View Himself As A Writer In The Later Years Of His Life?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Like many of the writers which include his friend Ernest Hemingway also, F. Scott Fitzgerald thought himself that he did not achieve anything in his creative pursuit and even he started thinking himself as a failure. But when it comes to the critics and readers, they think otherwise, they find that he is one of the greatest writers that 20th century has produced.

There are several reasons that can be cited that made him think that he was a failure. The first reason is that he took up a lavish lifestyle. He and his wife had taken up the lifestyle that they could not afford and that made them borrow money from different quarters and he has to do some works that he didn't feel like doing.

His estranged relationship with his wife was also one of the reasons for him to be in constant depression. She was in a mental hospital and he was living with someone else in Hollywood.

We can say that several aspects played their role in viewing himself as a failure but in the mind of the student of literature, he is always an enlightening figure.
