When Was Bristol City Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Bristol City Football Club was founded in 1897. They should not be confused with their rivals from the same town, who are Bristol Rovers.

The club was formed when Bristol South FC became professional and joined forces with their local rivals, Bedminster FC. They were admitted to the Second Division of the Football League in 1901 and gained promotion to the First Division in 1906.

The club's highest honours include winning the Welsh Cup in 1934. Although Bristol is not in Wales, teams located close to the Welsh border are allowed to participate in the competition.
Bristol City FC have also reached the final of the FA cup in 1909 but they lost the game to Manchester United.

Bristol City play their home games at the ground of Ashton Gate which has a capacity for over 21,000 people.

The club currently resides in the League One division and finished in 9th position in the 2005/06 season.
