    Scotland is a country positioned towards north-western Europe and is said to one of the four constituent nations of the United Kingdom.

    It covers the northern third of the island of Great Britain and is bounded with England towards the south. It is bordered by the North Sea towards the east, the Atlantic Ocean towards the north and west, the North Channel and Irish Sea towards the southwest. Scotland comprises of more than 790 islands. According to the census conducted in the year 2001, the total area of this region was estimated to be 30,414 square miles.

    The census report of 2001 also stated that the total population of this region was 5,094,800, having an average population density of 167.5 per square mile. The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh.
