Plastics can be both biodegradable and non biodegradable as well. A degradable plastic is one that can be broken down into its components by a natural process through enzyme action but this is not the case with non biodegradable plastics. Plastics are made through a polymerization process that creates bonds that are so strong that can not be broken down because it is a man made compound and there is no process available in nature that can break down this man made compound. The reaction that takes place to make this non biodegradable plastic does not occur naturally and is created by a process induced by human beings. So it will need some kind of force that reverses this reaction which is unfortunately not there in nature.
