Where Can I Find A Cheap Maltese?

Answer Question

If you can't afford a pup from someone whom breeds responsibly you should skip the middle man and check out the rescues or save up, get to know a few responsible breeder's and get your baby when everything fits . You also want to stay far away from anyone whom refers to their pups as anything but Maltese (no such thing as teacup, pocket, toy, micro, mini, or whatever else). 'Cheaper' puppy's have a tendency to be very expensive medically and emotionally in the long run and keep in mind it's a family member you are considering. Please be sure when considering price you are also considering whether or not you can afford regular vet maintenance, emergency or illness, spay or neuter, supplies like kennel and toys, high quality diet (more expensive in the short run compared to many of the commercial foods but saves tons of money on vet bills in the long run), ect. Maltese also need regular grooming's every 4 to 8 weeks if the hair is kept shorter (more often if you want to try and keep the pup longer) and that's an average of about 35 to 60 dollars depending. That's all provided your pup is reasonably healthy of course. Sometimes things just happen, but lack of consideration to what they are producing has resulted in high numbers of liver, knee, heart, neurological, metabolic/endochrine and other problems that can be very costly and devastating. The breed club usually has alot of info as well as breeder and national rescue listings. Good luck to you and happy hunting!
