When Was The Empire State Building Built?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The firm of Schreve, Lamb and Harmon built New York City's Empire State building in about 14 months, finishing it in 1931. Since the September 11th attacks, the Empire State Building is again the tallest building in the city. Incredibly, the framework for the building was constructed in two and a half months.   The building was largely pre-fabricated, which allowed it to be assembled in at roughly four and a half stories per week.  The building process was a great spectacle for the people of New York in 1930-31.

The Empire State building is a natural conductor of lightning; it is struck up to 500 times in a year.  There is a chapel on the 80th floor and every year there is a group wedding for anyone who shows up! The New York City Road runners host an annual run-up, racing to the top.  The fastest runners scale the 1,860 steps in under 11 minutes.
