& what is the cure

Painful huh?!  Most often, mouth ulcers are caused by acidic foods or drinks.  Also, if you have a small scratch (perhaps from eating or whatever) one could develop due to bacteria, or even from a viral infection.  Try a mouthwash such as Listerine or even Peroxide on a Q-tip.  If that doesn't help, you could call your dentist's office.  Either way, most ulcers (if not serious) take 7-10 days to heal...  Avoid lots of salt until then.

If the ulcers or sores appear at the corner or corners of mouth, it may be a form of yeast infection. We all have yeast in our system.  Under certain conditions the bacteria that balance out the yeast fall short and a yeast build up may cause a breech in the skin around mouth, especially if your mouth stays moist there.
