Should We As Individuals Donate To Charity?

I posted this at the Debate section, but found that setting too limiting for back-and-forth discussion. So I'm moving the topic here, hoping for some candid but rational input. My point is that as individuals, we are ill-prepared to raise funding for the various worthy charities--be they medical research, educational, cultural, environmental projects or disaster relief. I believe those should be the job of the government---an organization which WE create to do OUR work for us. We make sure they become the professionals and we demand they do a good job FOR US. Yes?

I posted at the debate but I'll answer again.

It should be the job of the gov. But I don't think that would work in reality. Corruption will occur sometime or later.

At least charities are non-profit, mostly

    Thanks, megamaster.
A car will break sometime. A knife will get dull sometime. Corruption MAY occur sometime.
Are we to then give up on everything?
If you can reach that state of existence, you will become a zenmaster (or a mega-megamaster!)
