These murders were carried out by the instructions given by Charles Manson.

Charles Manson was born to a girl out of wedlock and spent most of his childhood in and out of reform institutions because his mother was an alcoholic prostitute. He spent most of his adult life in prison for crimes like forgery, theft; pimping etc. he actually wanted to be a musician and also was acquainted with several of them. Later in the 1960s he befriended aimless disoriented people and formed a group which was known as the Manson Family. Today his name is a symbol of evil according to American pop culture. Thus anybody with an evil streak is known as a Manson in American pop terminology.
