Can You Have A Solar System For Hot Water Linked With A Combi Boiler?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

You can link a solar hot water system with a combi boiler but you will need specialist advice and some new equipment in addition to the solar panels. Combi boilers do away with the need for a hot water tank as they heat up cold water from the mains and send it directly to your taps. Solar systems usually work by heating water stored in a cylinder which then flows directly to your taps. If your combi boiler can accept pre-heated water then a combi can offer the basis of a very energy efficient system. Water heated by the solar panel derived energy can go to the boiler to be boosted in temperature if required. This means that there is less waste of energy from storing water in large tanks. However, combi boliers are not the first recommendation of solar experts and so if you have a combi boiler which cannot accept preheated water then a new bolier which works on a stored hot water system would be the preferred most cost effective option.
