How Do Corn Kernals Pop?

    Corn kernals pop when they are heated. There is a specific reason for it. Corn Kernals are composed largely of water. When they are heated, the temperature of the water inside the kernal increases. The rise of temperature results in rise in pressure inside the kernal. And when the pressure becomes unbearable, the kernal bursts open and forms a popped corn. See the link below for experiment:

      I didn't pay much attention but if you go to Foodnetwork.com and look for Good Eats it is a show it was on last night but maybe you can find it.
