Can You Say Something About David Mamet's New Ads For Ford?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

David Mamet seems to have realised there's some serious money to be made teaching the industry how to do a good job of commercials and television drama.  His acclaimed series The Unit is quite amazing and his new ads for Ford, first aired during the break of Sunday's American idol, are something else.

They are classic Mamet, with the built in repetition and the jokes based on what people say and do not mean.  If were take a small look at a joke, we can see this in action:

Man 1:  Do Germans count in seconds?
Man 2:  No, they count in German.

There is repetition, the words count and German AND the repetition of both sentences beginning with a monosyllable.

They are simple, they do not try to be flash, but they are played quite coolly with a simple acting style that one could not call character, but one might call acting instead.
