Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

HMS Collingwood was a battleship of the Royal Navy of the United Kingdom. It belonged to the St. Vincent class of vessels used by the British armed forces. It was launched on November 7, 1908 and commissioned two years later. HMS Collingwood is always referred to with the feminine pronoun she. She served with two fleets of the naval forces, namely the British Home Fleet and the Grand Fleet. She served with the British Home Fleet (the fleet that protects the territorial waters of the United Kingdom) first and then went on to serve the Grand Fleet (formerly known as the British Home Fleet).

She was a part of the 1st Battle Squadron, which fought the Battle of Jutland. Prince Albert (who later came to be known as King George VI) served on HMS Collingwood as a sub-lieutenant in the 'A' turret during the Battle of Jutland. The ship was sold as scrap in 1922.
