The beginning of the Second World War in 1939 synchronized with the origin and evolution of the United Nations. According to Stephen S. Godspeed, "For more than three years the United Nations was taking shape in rudimentary form, first in the mind of the planners, then in the declarations of various states, and finally in the conferences at Dumbarton Oaks, Yalta and San Francisco". The establishment of United Nations in October 1945 was the result of the following declarations, Charters and conferences which took place form 1941 to 1945.

The United Nations has proved to be a worthy successor of the League of Nations. So far since 1945 it has succeeded in keeping the world away from the Third World War. According to President Romulo, "Kill the United Nations and you blow up the dam that has already prevented four local wars from spreading --- Korea, Indonesia, Kashmir, and Palestine --- and could do the same in future".

During the last six decades the United Nations has successfully done a lot of useful work in the political, social, economic and cultural fields.
