Is It True Buzz Aldrin Said The Lunar Astronauts Saw A UFO?

Answer Question

Buzz Aldrin, one of the Apollo 11 astronauts who were the first men to walk on the moon, stated, in a British documentary 'Apollo 11, The Untold Story,' that the astronauts had seen an object in space which they could not identify. They radioed their base and asked where the S-IVB module, which had been part of their own spacecraft but had been sloughed off in the course of the flight, now was, thinking that the discarded module may have been what they were seeing. But the module proved to be more than 6,000 miles away and the object they were seeing appeared to be much closer. The astronauts decided not to talk about the subject over the radio for fear of stoking up alarm about aliens.

Since the documentary was broadcast, Aldrin has been coy about the UFO issue, refusing to answer a direct question about it when it was posed to him in the course of a radio interview. A NASA web page claims that Aldrin now insists his quotes were taken out of context and edited by the documentary-makers in such a way as to be misleading.
