    Michael Apted is an English director, actor, writer, and producer. He was born on February 10, 1941 in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, England.

    He is a very well-known and well-respected film producer. He is best known for his production of the "28 Up and 35 Up" documentaries. In these documentaries, he manages to track the lives of a certain group of people at different seven year intervals in their lives.

    He earned critical acclaim for his movies Agatha (1979) and Coal Miner's Daughter (1980). He also directed Gorillas in the Mist (1988), Thunderheart (1992), and Nell (1994). His films are actual documentaries that are set into a fictious setting. They can be considered a form of historical or factual fiction.

    On June 29, 2003 he was selected as President of the Directors Guild of America. In 2003, he returned to television. He directed the first three episodes of the TV series Rome. His latest feature film project is Amazing Grace.
