The Waterboys disbanded in 1993, exactly 10 years after the release of their debut album. Founder Mike Scott moved to Scottland, beginning a long stay at a spiritual commune. He began to pursue a solo career, releasing the folk-tinged Bring 'Em All In.
The band has comprised of predominantly Irish and British musicians. Songwriter and singer Mike Scott has been the group's only constant member since its formation in 1991, which is why his exit from the band, in pursuit of a solo career spelt the end of the band. Dream Harder, was the last album released in 1993 itself, prior to the split.
In 2000, the band was reformed and they continue to release albums and perform worldwide. Rock in the Weary Land, which came out the same year, was the band's first release after a seven year break.
