Greed by lenders, people overextending their credit and purchasing things, like homes and expensive vehicles, that they could not afford, easy credit, pie in the sky, bad judgment on both sides, and many other factors is what caused the present financial situation. The stock market is controlled by people trying to make fast money by buying when prices are low and then selling when prices rise, causing great fluncuations in the averages. Again this is GREED.
