Should I Use Black Mulch Material Around My Roses Bush To Stop The Weeds And Grass?

I planted some rose bushes just in the dirt. I didn't lay down any type of mulch or cloth. Now I am having a hard time pulling out weeds and grass that are at the base of my small rose bushes and the thorns hurt.

Your roses need to be mulched heavily to hold the moisture in the ground when you water. If you do not mulch, the soil will dry up much quicker and you always should water no more than twice weekly to avoid root rot. But make sure that you water deeply to avoid surface roots.
Mulching does help with the weeds and I have been told by a fellow gardener that the rubber mulch is an excellent choice.
